Banking

To have your own bank account, your group should have:

  • a committee or steering group, with at least two (unrelated) people willing to be the bank contacts and users of the account

  • ideally, and sometimes required, a simple written terms of reference for your group.

There are not many banks who offer accounts to 'unincorporated associations', (which is what you are if you are a community group, rather than say a charity).  The ones we know of / that Exeter groups have used are listed below.

National Westminster Bank

A relatively simple process to open your account, with most of it being done in one long phone call.

NB The Cooperative Bank no longer offers an account for community groups.
